Taylor completes successful TRS test in NZ

Current Australian Formula 3 Championship points leader Ben Taylor has completed his first test of a Toyota Racing Series FT60 in New Zealand with engineering support from Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Completing approximately 110 laps around Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Ruapuna, the 17-year-old from Victoria ran multiple sessions in the 2021 TGR FT60 TRS with support provided by the TRS category and operations manager Nicholas Caillol and well-known local racer Chris van der Drift.

“I really enjoyed driving this car because it was different to the F3, is much more updated than my car with the halo and steering etc so it’s always good to learn something new and fun at the same time,” said Taylor.

“I worked on data mostly with Chris [van der Drift] and he helped me with what I needed to do different each session. One thing I worked on was different pressure levels on the pedals because compared to the F3, the pedals in these cars are much more lighter and easier to press.

“I’d love to do another test day in the future and see how much I can improve again. What I enjoyed the most was how professional the team is and how helpful TGR were if I needed anything. I had a great time in New Zealand and can’t thank everyone enough for helping me learn and looking after me in the car,” concluded Taylor.

Taylor, currently in his rookie open-wheeler season, impressed at Round 1 of the Australian Formula 3 Championship in March where he claimed pole position and won the feature race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The next round of the championship will be held at Winton Raceway on June 11-13.
